Efficiency & Effectiveness

ree

EFFICIENCY speaks to process quality and the refinement of how work gets done. It focuses on minimizing waste, reducing errors, using fewer resources, and ensuring that systems operate smoothly and predictably.

EFFECTIVENESS addresses strategic alignment and value creation. It ensures an organization’s activities, products, and services are focused on what truly delivers value to customers and advances organizational objectives.

Efficiency without effectiveness leads to doing the wrong things very well, resulting in wasted potential.

Effectiveness without efficiency can lead to doing the right things poorly or unsustainably, resulting in the erosion of long-term value.

Efficiency is consequently process-driven, while effectiveness is purpose-driven.

A mature, quality-driven operational system ensures that an organization does things right (through standardization and control) and also does the right things (through strategic alignment that’s customer-focused).
